In May, AHS Project Manager Matt Witte, 25, finished his first marathon, but he is no stranger to going the extra mile. Witte has been doing just that for customers since joining AHS in 2005.

The Finish Line came to AHS to help solve their growth issues. AHS managed the construction of the new addition, the implementation of the material handling solutions and the interface of the conveyor control system with the Warehouse Management System (WMS). AHS implemented a sortation system that uses a tilt-tray sorter to move a mix of footwear and softgoods from four induction platforms as part of the order fulfillment process.
Distribution Strategy Takes Off for Veterinary Supplier
Fort Dodge Laboratories added wings to its distribution program. The partnering agreement it forged with Airborne Express Company may be a precursor for others dedicated to providing better customer service via quicker, more flexible response. Forte Dodge Laboratories manufactures veterinary supplies. The material handling equipment distributor on this project was AHS, winner of MHE's Value Added Award.
Each year MHE's editors select a Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA) member for our Value Added Award. This year's winner, AHS, Inc. exemplified how being able to offer a client a broad selection of equipment, as well as design options, can lead to a fulfilling partnership.
The management team for The Gap's Eastern Distribution Center had big plans for the 415,000 sq. ft. facility. Their immediate goal was to double their warehousing capacity without adding space of employees. Their long-term goal was to utilize modern technology to develop a warehousing operation which was highly automated.
The Gap called upon AHS to help make their plans a working reality. AHS was responsible for many areas within the system, including Receiving, Palletizing, Order Record Control, PicPac and Strapping.
AHS and Mathews Conveyor were asked to completely renovate the Finish Line facility. Two of the main considerations Finish Line had when choosing a new conveyor system for the renovation were low noise levels and high reliability.
ComputerLand's Indianapolis Distribution Operation, along with material handling equipment distributor and systems design firm, AHS,Inc. received our annual Value award in 1991. The two companies have again combined to create a unique manufacturing center that is a logical extension of that distribution center.
The burgeoning personal computer business has created an evolutionary material handling project for Vanstar in Indianapolis.
We first visited Vanstar in April 1991 when it was known as ComputerLand. The installation and Advanced Handling Systems were recipients of MHE's annual Value Added Award. The award recognizes extraordinary efforts on the part of a Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA) member.
Prior to building a new 180,000 square foot distribution/manufacturing center in West Chester, Ohio, Bakery Crafts challenged Advanced Handling Systems, Inc. a Cincinnati-based distributor and systems integrator, to outfit the new state-of-the-art facility with a material handling (MH) system that would streamline order processing and shipping.
